It is made from 6 hardly garment-dyed panels in canvas cotton, supporting its tough and hardwearing characteristics. Like in previous seasons, this mechanics cap has a large, top-stitched peak, held in place via a metal snap fastening on the back, which has three positions. This means the adjustability aspect makes the cap highly functional. It’s inspired by the caps worn by the mechanics and flight crew of the US Air Force during the Second World War, which was originally created to keep the sun out of mechanics’ eyes when they were preparing for take-off. This design feature has been respectively carried through into Nigel’s unsung classic version, and although they were first made over 70 years ago, they’re just as effective for today’s tasks. The mechanics cap is a twist on a traditional baseball cap, thanks to that timeless design these work well with both work-wear and military gear.
