Overview

This is a simple, single drum, open sided finishing sander, perfect for both board sanding and square frame sanding. Made mainly from aluminium alloy castings with a steel base frame, it is a robust machine for its size. A sturdy, splayed leg steel floor stand comes with the AP406DS. The open sided design allows wide boards up to 812mm to be sanded by running through from both sides. There is a hand control wheel for the sanding depth, with an indicator scale. A 0.75kW motor drives the drum, with a variable speed unit controlling the conveyor feed speed. The conveyor belt is easy to track, and there are shims provided to ensure that the conveyor belt is parallel to the sanding drum. The abrasive loadings are easy to change, with simple clips holding the abrasive. No tools required. Machine supplied with an 80 grit loading. N.B. Drum sanders are used as part of the finishing process, they are not intended to be used as a planer/thicknesser or for significant stock removal. A drum sander does not replace a planer/thicknesser and vice versa. Drum sanders are intended to be used with pre-planed and thicknessed material. Overall a planer/thicknesser is meant to dimension timber, the drum sander to finish it.
